Outback Steakhouse entered the Canadian market in 1996, but in March 2009, the brand closed all nine locations across Ontario due to challenging economic conditions. However, a new Outback Steakhouse opened in Niagara Falls in June 2009, followed later by a second Niagara Falls location. As of 2024, these two Niagara Falls restaurants are the only Outback Steakhouse locations currently operating in Canada.
In 2006, Outback Steakhouse introduced a new logo, swapping out the classic kangaroo design for a simpler, modern mountain range image. This update marked the beginning of a major renovation effort across their restaurants. Starting in 2008, Outback began remodeling most locations to create a fresher, more contemporary atmosphere. This transformation included replacing their well-known neon signs with energy-efficient LED lights and updating the interior from a dark, rustic feel to a brighter, more inviting look.
